The Department of Science and Technology

In 2013 this Department was created as a result of a fusion of the pre-existing Departments of Environmental and Biological Science and Geological and Environmental Studies, both the research and didactic activities of Biology and Geology are now a single part of the University of Sannio. The staff consists of XX members of which XX are professors and researchers, XX are trainee researchers and XX technical and administrative staff. Numerous research laboratories containing state of the art equipment, lecture rooms and teaching laboratories for both practical and frontal lessons are at the service of students. Mission Statement The Department of Science and Technology would like to represent a point of reference to the territory for the development of knowledge concerning all aspects of human, animal and plant biology and in the management and safeguarding of environmental and natural resources, and in the mitigation of geological hazard and environmental issues in particular of the Apennine peninsular Research To advance innovation and research activities the Department encourages and supports various forms of scientific collaboration and participation in research projects between the DST and national and international organizations and agencies. Significant funding also come from private firms and local companies involved in scientific research, technological innovation and the dissemination of scientific information. Teaching The D.S.T. has inherited the Bachelor and Master degrees of Biology and Geology from the Faculty of Sciences which was dissolved in 2013. Also on offer are teacher training courses. There is a team of technical staff available to aid and support teaching and ensure a successful learning experience. Governance To ensure the cultural, financial and scientific advancement of the Department the statutory bodies facilitate the achievement of the cultural and scientific aims and ensures a balanced distribution of resources both for research and for teaching can be assisted by:
  • Joint teaching commission
    Prepares proposals for the organization and planning of educational activities.
  • Teaching committee
    Dedicated to the planning of teaching by professors and researchers of the DST in the various courses of study
  • Degree course council
    Heads of proposals for individual courses.
